The Partners in Justice International legal team has decades of combined experience prosecuting perpetrators and representing victims and survivors of human rights violations and international atrocity crimes in litigation. The legal team has litigated human rights cases in U.S. courts, the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL), and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and has assisted local practitioners in international crimes investigations and prosecutions around the world, including in Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Kenya, Kosovo, the Philippines, South Korea, Tunisia, and Ukraine.

Max and Kathy came to this work by different paths. Max was a war crimes prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and she was an investigator at the Special Court for Sierra Leone. Kathy was Legal Director at the Center for Justice and Accountability, a victim lawyer investigating and trying atrocity crimes cases in the courts of third countries (usually the United States). Both saw the need for victims to see justice where they live. Both heard the call of local justice practitioners seeking support to make that happen. They founded PJI to respond to this call.
